What is it?
Coeliac disease is characterized by an allergy and inability to digest gluten. When gluten is ingested it damages and inflames the intestinal wall so they are unable to absorb nutrients. Gluten intolerance does not damage the intestines to the same degree as in ceoliac disease but can still be debilitating. Removal of all foods containing gluten will alleviate the disorder.

Go gluten free. Work with a knowledgeable health care practitioner to find out which foods contain gluten and eliminate them from your diet, and incorporate alternative foods to eat to maintain a balanced diet. Foods that contain gluten include wheat, oats, barley and rye.
Always read food labels as wheat derivitives may be hidden in foods such as sauces, condiments, dressing, dips, baked items, canned and packaged foods.
Coeliac-friendly foods that ceoliacs can consume freely include corn, millet, rice, buckwheat and quinoa, as well as potato and soy flour.
Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, nuts and seeds.
Take a high potency multi vitamin that will supply your body with all the essential micronutrients, especially iron, vitamin D, vitamin K, calcium, magnesium, folic acid and zinc.
Get routine check ups and have your health care practitioner monitor your bone health, check for anaemia and any other possible nutrient de make sure you are not developing nutritional deficiencies.
